While I was giving fish medicine for white spots, I saw maybe 10 worms on the upper glass of the aquarium… For now I just wiped them and threw them in the garbage but I am sure there is much more…
Any idea what are these worms? How can I fix this problem? From where did they come from..?
Note: They are small and white and i found some in the water… I also saw that there are small flies around the aquarium…
Thanks!
maggots! There must be something dead or the water is really stagnant. YUCK!!!!!!
They won’t hurt your fish although they probably aren’t attractive to look at. A lot of fish like to eat those, so you might try to see if you can’t swish them back into the tank and get them to eat them. Once they’ve figured out that the little worms are tasty, they’ll probably hunt them down on their own for a little snack.
If you’re treating for white spot disease, or ich, you should also be putting salt in the water (not for catfish who can’t tolerate the salt). The salt will also get rid of the little worms. Be sure that you increase the temperature of the tank to 84 degrees and treat long enough for the entire life cycle of the ich parasite. It has three stages, and medication is only effective during the swimmer stage. It is really important to continue treatment after the white spots away, for up to three weeks.
Well there are too things. 1, they are simply incestcs that are attracted to the fish, or 2, they are parasites from the fish. If they are, collect a sample of them and bring ur fish to the vet immiddeatly.
there is probably a dead fish in there. move rocks, look in caves do anything to get it out. they will not go away till you get the dead fish out. i have never had this happen to my tank. get your water tested make sure there is nothing in the water to make them come. is your tank clean? if not clean it. do water changes if you dont.
Google Planaria.
Cause by overfeeding and lack of water changes. These worms are in every aquarium, but only seen when the tank is not being maintainted well.
As for the flies, I am not sure…..
How about you clean your tank?
