I am considering planning a fishing trip for my fiance. We live in NJ and I don’t want to fly anywhere. I am thinking a weekend trip to New York or somewhere where he could fish into the Atlantic. Would I need to get him a fishing license? (He never keeps the fish.) I want to get a lodge or something for the weekend also. Any suggestions as to good spots to take him that are in the NE area and are nearby to other sights to take advantage of for the weekend. I am planning on going sometime between Sept and November…
For freshwater fishing in a state you will probably need a license whether you keep the fish or not. If your fishing in NJ won’t you just catch dead bodies?
The Outer Banks of North Carolina. It’s not that far from the Northeast.
The fishing there is absolutely awesome in the fall. You can fish in the surf, creeks or the ocean and almost be guaranteed to catch something.
An extra bonus is that it’s beautiful there. Prices are reasonable.
I would suggest montauk point. The variety of fishing available now is awesome . From porgies to striped bass and fluke.there is some good shark fishing happening now and the school bluefin tuna {20 to 50 lbers] just showed up. You can also mix in some sightseeing and very good dining.there are tons of charter and party boats and the surf fishing at montauk is legendery.there are tackle shops in montauk for all your supplies. And from ne jersey ,off peak should be and 2 hour drive.Just dont do it on a friday afternoon. I would suggest mid september because there should be a lot of bass and blues in the surf at that time and the rates start to drop for rooms
